New York City Ballet

After a winter season of mostly full-length ballets, NYCB resumes its Balanchine Centennial season this spring. The first week features some of the master's sublime works, including La Valse, Symphony in C, Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet and Liebeslieder Walzer. Also, Paris Opera Ballet étoiles Aurélie Dupont and Manuel Legris will guest in Balanchine’s Sonatine. On May 1, the company will hold Alumni Night,during which the invited Alumni in the audience will be acknowledged. 4/27 at 7:30pm, 4/28-30 at 8pm, 5/1 at 2pm and 8pm, 5/2 at 3pm. Breaking Lines Dance Festival

At 4/28 at 8pm: Darrah Carr Dance presents a selection of company favorites, as well as the premiere of a new work set to mesmerizing sounds of the Afro-Celt band De Jimbe. At 4/29 at 8pm: Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company presents its full-evening work, Mayne Mentshn (My People), which celebrates Jewish gesture, expression, ritual, traditions and values. 4/30 at 8pm: New Voices: An evening of dance with emerging choreographers. Julieta Valero, a Venezuelan dancer/choreographer presents De la Calle, (From the Street); American born choreographer Nick Seligson-Ross of the Nicholas Andre Dance Theater presents Crossroads; and Jamaican born dancer/choreographer Kevin Williams uses a dance vocabulary known as "street jazz" to create works that explore how one begins in the street and ends in the world of dance. 5/1 at 8pm, 5/2 at 3pm: Kun-Yang Lin Dancers, presents a repertory that fuses traditional Chinese dance forms with the modern vocabulary.
